An estimated 50 million Americans suffer from over 80 different sleep disorders including snoring, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs and insomnia. The impact of these sleep disturbances on the health and welfare of our society is enormous.

The Center for Sleep Medicine at CTNC is led by Terry S. Peery, DO and offers Central Texas one of the most comprehensive, state-of-the-art sleep medicine programs by offering in-lab and home sleep testing, as well as multi-disciplinary treatment modalities such as CPAP, dental appliances and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

"Sleep is essential to our overall health and well being. It is important that those who experience consistent, inadequate sleep, or exhibit symptoms of a sleep disorder, be evaluated and treated to prevent the development of chronic medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and others."

Common Sleep Disorders

At CTNC's Center for Sleep Medicine, we understand that when sleep problems persist, your quality of life suffers. We offer confidential diagnosis and treatment of over 80 sleep disorders, including:
  • Bruxism (teeth grinding)
  • Circadian-rhythm disorders: conditions that disrupt a person's internal body clock and adversely affect the natural daily cycle of waking and sleeping.
  • Parasomnias: conditions that involve abnormal movements, behaviors, emotions, perceptions, and dreams that occur while falling asleep, sleeping, between sleep stages, or during arousal from sleep.
  • Insomnia
  • Narcolepsy
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Obstructive sleep apnea
  • Shift Work Sleep Disorder: a circadian-rhythm disorder resulting from keeping a work schedule that interrupts the body’s natural sleep cycle
  • Sleep walking
  • Nightmare Disorder
  • REM Sleep Behavior Disorder
  • Snoring

Sleep Studies
  • Polysomnogram (PSG): A sleep study that will require you to spend the night in a sleep center. PSG results are used to help diagnosis sleep-related breathing disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA); sleep-related seizure disorders; sleep-related movement disorders, such as periodic limb movements of sleep (PLMS); and sleep disorders that cause extreme daytime sleepiness, such as narcolepsy (PSG and MSLT results will be reviewed together).
  • CPAP Titration: A PSG done to determine the correct settings on a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine. CPAP is used to treat OSA.
  • Home Sleep Test: A sleep study done in your home to diagnosis OSA. Home sleep testing is appropriate only for some people.
  • Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT): This daytime nap test measures how sleepy you are and is typically done the day after an overnight PSG. It is used to help diagnosis sleep disorders of excessive daytime sleepiness, such as narcolepsy.
  • Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT): This daytime nap test measures your ability to stay awake and alert.
